Yeah, I was bored and I was in a gay-rights-y mood. I know this is crappily made. Hey, it was like 4AM. (If I've left out any lesbian/gay/bi person who you think is particularly, outstandingly important, please don't complain -_- Ditto if I've included someone who you think shouldn't have been included. This isn't meant to be a contender for the Turner Prize).
EDITS: 1. Thanks for all the faves/comments/newly acquired internet stalkers/whatever
2. I'll repeat: IF I've left anyone out, please don't complain >.< I love Freddie Mercury just as much as you do, just not quite enough to edit the goddamn picture.
3. I got 99% of my info from wikipedia. People have been asking about:
- Wilfred Owen: Yeah, he was pretty certainly gay. - Shakespeare: Well, that's a little less certain. But bi, we think. There were a few poems that were either love poems or "expressions of intense friendship" for young men. Also - Antonio and Bassanio. - Da Vinci - Again, less certain. He had a few romantic letters to and from his *cough* students, and he was tried for sodomy a few times.
Basically, yes, most of these are speculation, because up until very recently there just weren't openly or obviously gay people (apart from Oscar Wilde, who didn't really make too much of an attempt at hiding it, did he? >.<). So yeah, we have to work on speculation. But I tried to only use people who are *widely* speculated about.
...IF you guys like I can add a "probably" after all their names.
(Also, in Ancient Greece (and to a lesser extent, Ancient Rome) it was pretty normal for men to sleep with men, but it didnt necessarily make one gay. THat's quite a simplification, but basically, there were WAY too many classical poets for me to include all of them).
3. No, wait-
4. I forgot to mention this first time around, but for any of our trans friends out there, sorry I didn't include any famous trans people Like I said, this was made very quickly at an indecent hour in the morning. There were a couple of trans Egyptian pharoahs, actually (or it might have been Roman emperors...either way >.<), and I suppose I could have included them. The thing is, I've never been quite sure about lumping trans people in with lesbian/gay/bi people, because sexuality is entirely different from gender, but hey. THat's a rasnt for another time.
Just learned this the other day but King Leonidas (most famously Gerard Butlers character in movie 300) and all the other spartans would acually take on younger men and sleep with them all the time. Just saying even mocho men like Spartans use to sleep with other men on a side note they also use to comb and braid their long silky hair before battle and the women weren't aloud to have long hair. Shows how times have changed eh
Yeah, I agree on not including trans people on this particular deviation ('cause gender is, as you've pointed out, not a sexual preferance). But I think they should be "lumped together" in most other aspects because of the whole LGBT community thing. Plus Trans people (especially MtFs) get more bullying and are lesser known that gay/bi/lesbians and therefore need more support from understandng people (who tend to be the gay/bi/lesbians)
